Reading and Writing Skills Programs

FOR CHILDREN IN GRADES PRE-K THROUGH 5


Program R (Readiness)

*for children ages 4 and 5 entering Pre-K and Kindergarten.

*Meet once a week for 1 hour. *Children in this program learn beginning reading and writing skills, phonemic awareness, build comprehension and vocabulary, learn and practice early writing skills.


Program 1

*for entering 1st graders.

*Meet once a week for 1 hour.

*Children build sight words and academic vocabulary, develop phonemic skills, reading comprehension and fluency, master early writing skills.


Program 2

*for entering 2nd graders.

*Meet once a week for 2 hours.

*Students learn word-attack skills, increase new vocabulary, improve fluency and comprehension skills, become strong independent readers and writers.


Program 3

*for entering 3rd graders.

*Meet once a week for 2 hours.

*Students develop strong high-ordered critical thinking skills, build comprehension, increase academic language, become more fluent and confident readers, learn and master strong writing skills.


Program 4

*for entering 4th and 5th graders.

*Meet once a week for 2 hours.

*Upper-graders in elementary school master all the necessary reading skills to absorb and comprehend more complex literature. Students read in order to learn, develop higher-ordered critical thinking skills, increase comprehension and fluency, learn to identify with text, inference, make connections, think logically and  analyze text, master advanced writing skills.


All Summer Literacy Programs are aligned with New York State Curriculum and Learning Standards.


CLASSES ARE TAUGHT BY PROFESSIONAL, NY STATE CERTIFIED INSTRUCTORS
